
Eligibility Requirements
Utah Tech University’s Advanced Degree Support initiative was developed to support staff members’ continued educational growth toward attaining an advanced degree at Utah Tech University or through an accredited out-of-state program. Eligible employees include:
- Benefit-eligible staff members who have been full-time employees for at least one year and are in good standing with the institution
- Pursuing a master’s or doctorate degree or advanced certificate at Utah Tech University or an institution outside of the Utah System of Higher Education
- A minimum grade of B or better is required for reimbursement
Reimbursement Amounts
Subject to the availability of funds, graduate students who earn a B or better would be eligible for the following amounts:
- Up to $5,000 reimbursement for the calendar year for Utah Tech University graduate programs
- Up to $4,000 reimbursement per calendar year for accredited graduate programs outside of the USHE system
Maximum reimbursements are limited to $10,000 total for a master’s degree, $18,000 for a doctorate, and $5,000 for an advanced certificate and cannot exceed more than 50 percent of the entire degree cost.


Application Process
When applying for financial support toward your advanced degree, please ensure your uploaded documents offer clear and complete answers, as these will help inform the selection process. Required uploads include:
- Proof of Acceptance – Please include your letter of acceptance and unofficial updated or latest transcript if relevant.
- Benefits of Financial Support – please be sure to clearly answer the following questions:
- How will you benefit from receiving financial support?
- What are your overall career goals?
- How will earning your advanced degree benefit Utah Tech University?
- Letters of Recommendation – You must submit a letter of recommendation from your supervisor as well as an additional person of your choosing.
- Supervisor Letter: Your supervisor should consider sharing about the value you bring to the institution as well as the benefit of your continued education (both for you and the institution).
- Additional Letter: The other letter should address positive characteristics or attributes that contribute to your success and serve as strong indicators of your potential to complete the advanced degree program.
